Moscow, November 1: Ukraine police have detained a group of 19 illegal immigrants from India near the country's capital Kiev.

"A group of nineteen illegal immigrants from the Republic of India has been detained in a forest in the Zgurovsky district near Kiev," Ukraine's UNIAN news agency reported quoting police officials.

The report could not be immediately confirmed as the Indian Embassy in Kiev is closed on the weekend.

Ukraine, which borders European Union members Poland, Slovakia, Hungary and Romania to the west, is one of the main routes used by illegal immigrants seeking entry to the EU.
