Passing the order on Thursday, Deputy Commissioner of Police (traffic) Manoj Patil cited reducing traffic jams and securing the VVIP routes as reasons for the decision. As per the order, parking of vehicles will not be allowed on both sides of the route from University of Pune to Indian Meteorological Department and from Sancheti Hospital to Engineering College junction and from Regional Transport Office to Jehangir Hospital, going on to Hotel Taj Blue Diamond.

The traffic control branch has also imposed one-way traffic on the stretch from Dorabjee’s to Blue Nile Hotel and from Kirad junction to Nehru Memorial Hall — a circular stretch that goes around the Pune police commissionerate. According to the police, this circular one-way traffic will avoid traffic jams and give additional security to the commissionerate.

Meanwhile, the traffic control branch has also banned parking on either sides of the road between the state government press and library, located near the police commissionerate.

According to another order, movement of trucks carrying cement from Maldhakka junction, off Pune Railway station, to city has been restricted between 9 am to 11.30 am and 4.30 pm to 8 pm.
