The crime branch said the arrested accused Deepak Dandekar (49) and Krishnajee Mhatre (42) had allegedly blackmailed a number of women. The duo would morph photographs of the women to appear as nude pictures and mail them to the residences of the victims with a letter to extort money, the police said.Crime branch officers said the duo would sometimes get photos of women from photo studios and morph them. In a recent case registered with Uran police, the accused sent the morphed pictures to the residence of the complainant, and demanded that Rs 5 lakh be deposited in an account opened with forged documents.

The accused are also wanted in a similar case at Amravati where they had demanded Rs 3 lakh. The police have found around 70 photographs of women who they suspect were victims of the crime.

Dandekar, who is allegedly the main accused, is also wanted in a five-year-old case, where he had allegedly sold a plot of land worth Rs 57 lakh that did not belong to him.
