2 dowry cases reported from different parts of Surat

Surat, January 1 Two separate complaints related to dowry harassment were reported from the Katargam and Salabatpura Police Station areas of the city on Tuesday.

Neeta Limbachiya (26), a resident of Ratnamala apartment near Gajera circle in Katargam lodged a complaint against her husband Pankaj and his parents Ambaram and Ramila Limbachiya with the police. Neeta said, her in-laws tortured her mentally and physically for failing to bring cash worth Rs 1 lakh from her parents’ house. They abused and beat her regularly, she said.

Fed up with the torture, Neeta left her in-laws' place a week ago and started staying with her parents and lodged a police complaint against her in-laws. She said, that in her five years of marriage, she had fulfilled all the cash demands of her in-laws. But now, her in-laws' had begun demanding money at regular intervals. Katargam police have now begun searching for Pankaj and his parents.

In the second incident, Divya Mewala (22), a resident of Umarwada tenement in Salabatpura alleged being tortured by her husband Mayur and his parents for the last one year. She said she had been married for two years, while her husband was jobless for the past six months. Her in-laws tortured her mentally and physically for failing to fulfil their demands.

In her complaint with the Salabatpura Police, Divya said that her husband and his parents told her to bring Rs 5 lakh from her parents' house. When she failed to act on their demands, they began torturing her. Fed up with the torture, she left her in-laws' place and contacted Salabatpura police to lodge a dowry complaint against them.
