2 lynched for misbehaving with women pilgrims

Kolkata Two persons were lynched at Katwa, Burdwan, by villagers on Sunday night when they allegedly misbehaved with few pilgrims who were on their way to Guskara.

According to the police, Momo Sheikh and Ayesh Sheikh were injured after being beaten up by villagers at Srikhand. The police rescued them and shifted them to Burdwan Medical college, where they died later.

Jyotirmoy Roy, SDPO Katwa, said some people had misbehaved with the women pilgrims when they were passing through a village at Srikhand on Sunday night. One of the women lodged a complaint with the Katwa police and an investigation has been started, he said.

Following the incident, locals blocked the Burdwan-Katwa road and the police rushed to the spot to remove the blockade.

Thousand of pilgrims visit a temple at Gushkara after taking a holy bath in the river Ganga at Katwa. The pilgrims have to walk for about 60 km from Katwa to visit the temple at Guskhara.
