Two suspected militants were gunned down by the anti-terrorist squad (ATS) of Uttar Pradesh Police following a gunfight in the early hours of Sunday in Noida.
The two entered from Ghaziabad and the encounter took place in Noida’s Sector-97, at a deserted area close to Hajipur village, the police said.
Police suspect the alleged militants came from across the border as Pakistani passports were recovered from the car in which they were apparently trying to cross over to Delhi.
An ATS officer, Vinod Kumar, was injured in the encounter; his condition is now stated to be stable. At least 45 rounds were exchanged in the encounter, an officer said.
As per the passports recovered, the alleged militants have been identified as Ali Ahmad and Abu Ismail — from Okara and Rawalakot, respectively, in Pakistan. The police suspect they belong to the Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT).
Inspector General of Police (I-G), Meerut range, Gurbachan Lal said the state police had raised security after receiving inputs from intelligence agencies about movement of militants in the Ghaziabad-Meerut region for the past month or so. Besides Pakistani passports, maps of various locations in Delhi, 1 kg RDX, 5 hand grenades, 2 AK-47 rifles, 4 magazines, 150 bullets, 3 detonators, two fake identity cards of a Delhi school (see story below) and Rs 18,000 cash were recovered from the car (a white Maruti-800; UP 14 E 9531). Noida SSP Naveen Arora said the two were planning to enter Delhi— “their plan was to target the Republic Day parade.”
The chase begins
On an alert following the intelligence inputs, the police spotted the Maruti car near Lal Kuan in Ghaziabad around 1.30 am Sunday, and an ATS team followed it into Noida. As it entered Noida through the Model Town crossing near Sector-62, a team from Sector-39 police station led by Station House Officer Anil Samania blocked the Delhi-Noida border near Kalindi Kunj. The alleged militants were headed for the Capital through this stretch, the police claim.
This was at 2.10 am.
The police tried to flag down the car near Amity crossing in Sector-44 but, officers said, it turned and sped towards the Noida-Greater Noida expressway and entered Sector-100. The police team caught up with it after a 4-km chase near Hajipur village and forced it to stop.
This was around 2.30 am.
“The men inside immediately opened fire and injured an officer,” SHO Samania said. “They got off and tried to run away into the fields but were killed when we retaliated.”
The encounter lasted about 40 minutes, the police said.
The alleged militants were declared dead on arrival at the District Government Hospital in Sector-30.
The encounter spot
Chhote Lal, who works as security guard at a factory close to the spot, said he first heard “heavy firing” around 2.30 am. “After the initial burst momentary firing lasted for close to 40 minutes,” he said.
The spot, incidentally, is metres away from the place where the police gunned down an alleged gangster from Greater Noida last month. People from the area now say they are nothing if not scared. Satpal Singh, who lives in adjoining Barola village and works at a Sector-97 factory, said: “People have stopped using this stretch of the road at night since last month’s encounter. The area needs better policing, especially since it is deserted for most part of the day.”

In UK whenever, they have killings like that they do an independent inquiry from Independent Police Complaints Commission. India should have a similar mechanism to stop trigger happy policemen killing innocents that goes uncontested.Faking passports is very easy and the last year's Noida police related incident in Abul Fazal Enclave is very well known where police came with fake Pakistani passports.
good job Jai Hind!!!
Great Work. Media and Government should appreciate the officers involved in this operation. They has saved many lifes.
It is surprising that neither Dirty Antulay nor Digi Raja did not lead the chorus protests along with corupt Lalloo and Paswan and others in the Congress failked to about innocent Pakis being killed witout any prewarning nor Barkha Dutt and Deelip Sardeasai and Thapper and like them were given any time to negotiate the safe return of the terroists and made to rely upon second hand handout givin by the UP Police under Mayawati! In future this aspect has to taken into considearation.
This is the result of Amar Singh's and Mulayam's policy of minority appeasement. Peoiple must stand united and vote for a nationalist party like BJP to restore India's security and prestige work wide. Congress led UPA and Mulayam led SP have let India down on all front.
WELL DONE WE ARE PROUD OF YOU FOR SAFEGUARDING OUR LIVES. NO MERCY SHOULD BE SHOWN TO THESE ANTI SOCIAL ELEMENTS AND THEY SHOULD BE ELIMINATED ON THE SPOT TO AVOID GETTING INTO LEGAL WRANGLES.
