New Delhi Two women have been detained by the Delhi Police in the sexual assault case of a 14-year-old girl, who rushed a two-year-old infant to AIIMS Trauma Centre with serious injuries.

One of them is suspected to be Munni, the biological mother of the two-year-old. Sources in the police said the two were detained from Rohtak and Alwar, but Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Chhaya Sharma refused to confirm the detention or any formal arrest.

According to police sources, the woman in her 30s, who is suspected to be Munni, was traced after South Delhi police zeroed in on a Haryana-based woman known for selling brides. The woman suspected to be Munni was sold as a bride in Alwar by the Haryana-based woman.

Vivek Sharma, Superintendent of Police (Rohtak) said he was not aware of any arrest by the Delhi Police. “The Rohtak police was not involved in any such operation. If the Delhi Police had come to the district and arrested anyone, they would have informed us at least.”

Mahesh Kumar Goyal, Superintendent of Police (Alwar) also denied any knowledge of Munni’s detention from his district. “We have not carried out any operation with the Delhi Police. If they have picked up anyone then it is their operation. We were not involved,” he said.

The prime accused in the case and the 14-year-old’s live-in partner, Rajkumar, is yet to be arrested.
