Kolkata, June 11 Following a memorandum of understanding signed between the Bengal Engineering and Science University (BESU) and Queen's University, Belfast, in January this year, 20 students from BESU will be leaving for the British university on June 15 for a two-week exchange programme.

Five students, each from the departments of Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Information and Technology and Electronics and Telecommunication, will visit the university on an Electronics Engineers Welcome Scheme (EEWS). The students will get a chance to work on the ongoing research projects and will also get an opportunity to work on short-term projects at the university.

According to university officials, the students from Queen's University are expected to visit BESU next year. However, the details of the visit have not been finalised yet.

According to BESU Vice-Chancellor N R Banerjea, the university is also exploring the possibility of tie-ups with the University of Windsor, Canada and University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. "We are considering an association with the University of Windsor, Canada, for our Centre of Excellence in Automobile Engineering," said the Vice-Chancellor.

Recently, BESU has undertaken an Indo-US project on advanced manufacturing that involves institutions like IITs. The university authorities are expecting more such associations in future. The officials of the university said that in near future the university would go for six-eight weeks exchange programmes.
