“We will train an average of 2.5 drivers per bus,” the spokesperson of Ashok Leyland said. “After these buses (manufactured by Tata Motors) we will give 875 buses to the Delhi government.” The buses will include 350 air-conditioned and 525 non-air-conditioned buses.
The company said it will start the training by the end of this month. “We had also helped the government in evaluating the existing drivers’ skills to drive the low floor buses earlier,” the spokesperson said.
Last year, Tata Motors had supplied the first batch of 600 low floor AC and non-AC buses.
Meanwhile, the institute trains drivers of medium and heavy commercial vehicles. So far, the institute has trained 50,000 drivers of which 1,345 are Blueline drivers. While the course fee varies between Rs 150 and Rs 10,000, the institute offers refresher courses for renewal of licences and handling hazardous chemical items.
