New Delhi, January 31 The Ghaziabad Police on Thursday rescued a 22-year-old woman who was sold to a ‘client’ for Rs 10,000 by her agent two months ago. Police officers said that this is only the tip of an iceberg. Many more arrests will to be made after interrogating the woman and the person she was sold to.

Senior Superintendent of Police Deepak Ratan said, “Flesh trade has been a major problem for us and this arrest will help us make inroads into the gangs who are involved in this.” Ratan said, “there are thousands of women, most of them migrants, who are forced into the trade.”

Around 10 am on Thursday, Shabana (name changed) was having a fight with Raju, the person to whom she was sold a few weeks ago, when a patrol van from the Kotwali police station intercepted them. Both were brought to the police station where Shabana revealed that she had been sold to Raju by a dealer called Joni. “My agent sells me for Rs 10,000 to different people in Muzaffarnagar and other adjoining areas,” said Shabana.

Raju is presently in police custody and is being interrogated.
