Vadodara, January 4 In a freak incident, a 23-year-old engineering student of M S University (MSU) died of a heart attack on Thursday afternoon, while playing cricket at the university's pavilion grounds.

Krupal Patel, a resident of R R Park in Karelibaug and a final year engineering student at the Faculty of Technology, started swaying in the middle of the game before slumping on the ground. Unable to comprehend what had happened to Patel, his friends took him to the nearby Narhari Hospital, where the doctors failed to revive him.

The Sayajigunj Police have registered a case of accidental death. They said that the boy was suffering from a heart disease, but they were unsure whether his parents were aware of it. They further said it was a freak accident, as the boy had never showed any signs of heart problem before.

Sources close to Patel's family said they had no idea that their boy was ill. A neighbour who preferred to remain anonymous said he was the only son in the middle-class Patel family. The deceased's father, Vijay Patel works in GIDC Gorwa.

A post-mortem at the SSG Hospital also confirmed that the death was caused by a massive cardiac arrest and that the boy had been suffering from some sort of heart ailment for a few years.
