Chandigarh, February 13 A Muradabad district resident, Deep (23), was found dead under mysterious circumstances at his in-laws’ residence in Indra colony, Chandigarh, on Wednesday. While Deep’s mother Puranvati alleged that Deep’s in-laws poisoned him to death, the police have so far not found any substantial evidence to corroborate Puranvati’s allegations.

Deep, who got married to Mamta about four months ago, had been staying at the residence of his in-laws in Indra colony for the last 15 days. “Last night, he went out and came back late.

He complained of severe chest pain and nausea.

His mother-in-law Ramsiri and wife Mamta took him to the Civil hospital, Sector 6, Panchkula.

“When doctors asked Deep whether he had consumed something, he initially denied, but later on he disclosed that he had consumed rat poison. The doctors referred him to the PGI but Deep’s wife and mother-in-law did not take him to the hospital due of financial constraints and brought him back to the hospital. The doctors at the hospital gave them Rs 70, but yet they brought him home. Deep’s father-in-law Nagesh informed Deep’s father Gulab about his condition. Soon after his parents’ arrival at his in-laws’ residence Deep passed away,” Station House Officer, Police Station Manimajra, Inspector Hari Kumar told Newsline.

He further said, “The police investigations revealed that Deeps’ father even made him speak to his mother.

“Deep wanted to meet his mother, but he passed away. Now, Deep’s mother has alleged that her son told her on the phone that his in-laws had poisoned him. However, Deep’s father and other relatives who were present with him when he died, have not supported his mother’s statement.”

So far, the police have initiated inquest proceedings and have kept Deep’s body at hospital mortuary for the post-mortem examination. “We are still investigating the matter. If any substantial evidence comes up hinting a foul play, action shall be taken accordingly,” added Inspector Hari Kumar.
