25 pc weightage to class Xii score, 75 pc to CET

Chandigarh, February 12 The Panjab University has decided to give 25 per cent weightage to Class XII marks and 75 per cent to CET score for admission to different courses. The decision was taken at a Syndicate meeting held today.

The Syndics have also recommended that the LLB entrance also be conducted in Hindi and Punjabi apart from English. The decision was taken after a letter from the University Grants Commission.

The Common Entrance Test exam is held for various courses including MBBS at Government Medical College and Hospital, BDS at Dr Harvansh Judge Institute of Dental Sciences, BAMS at Shri Dhanwantry Ayurvedic College BHMS at Homeopathic Medical College, B Pharma at University Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences, BA LLB five year integrated course and B Sc (Hons Schools) in Anthropology, Bio-Physics, Bio-Chemistry, Geology, Mathematics and Computing, Microbiology, Physics and Zoology in different departments of PU. The weightage would be given in all exams except BA LLB.

The Syndicate has also decided that the old system of internal assessment will be followed in the Department of Laws. The students will need to pass in the aggregate of theory and practical marks.

As many as 22 new courses will be started in the coming session. These will include MBA in Department of Correspondence Studies, a five-year integrated course of BE (Chemical) with MBA, Art Appreciation in Department of Fine Arts, MPhil course in Defence Studies, MCA programme in the evening shift, Masters in Disaster Management and Diploma in Vernacular Journalism among others.

The Syndicate has accepted the proposal to to attract senior faculty in the Dr H S Judge Institute of Dental Sciences by giving incentives. The senior faculty appointed will be given accommodation, telephone facility and academic allowance.

They will also be allowed private practice for two hours daily and the income generated will be shared among the doctor, the varsity and the supporting staff.

The appointment of Dean University Instructions, Professor S K Kulkarni, has been extended up to December 31.
