Pranab mukherjee

New Delhi The first anniversary of the Mumbai terror attacks saw Leader of the Opposition L K Advani expressing concern over the relief to the victims and Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee hitting back accusing the BJP of exploiting the 26/11 incident for political gains.

"You are making politics out of this. Earlier also you did it and were paid back. ... You will be again paid back in your own coin," an angry Leader of the House, Mukherjee, remarked in the Lok Sabha.

This followed BJP leader Anant Kumar's insistence that Mukherjee should respond to Advani's concerns over the state of relief and rehabilitation of the victims of 26/11 and the blasts in suburban trains.

Amid cries of 'shame, shame' from some members, Advani had said out of 403 persons eligible for relief, only 118 have received cheques so far and while 64 of them were eligible for railway jobs, only 32 had received offers till now.

The Leader of the Opposition also suggested that a special cell be created in the Home Ministry, with an officer on special duty as its head, to look into the "problems of coordination" between 12 different agencies, including eight of the state government, involved in handling relief.

Speaker Meira Kumar sought to pacify an agitated Kumar saying it was a solemn occasion and one should maintain its solemnity. She told the member Mukherjee has already said he had come specially to hear Advani and has noted what he said.

In the Rajya Sabha too, BJP attacked the government for showing "negligence" in fulfilling the promises made to the family members of those killed and injured in the 26/11 attacks.

From centuries to decades by GanjiMata on 28 Nov 2009

This scuffle was there and will be there as India moves one step ahead and two steps back . Gandhi (Family) Government or another option taday we have is Sangh parivar Government but it is we are to be blamed that after so many years of independence we have not formed and we havent seen working , functional, truly Indian Government. We can only hope India has good future .

Pranab Mukherjee...you too are a Congressi ... by JNS on 27 Nov 2009

Pranab Mukherjee, you have proved by your insensitive comments on the relevant issues raised by Shri. Advani in the parliament, that you too are as bad as your party is. What were the questions raised by Shri Advani: 1. Compensation cheques sent to victims HAVE BOUNCED, and that the Union Home Minister ( absent yesterday) take personal interest in it. 2. The Union government should also probe the other compensations which have not been given. Did this warrant your gutter words that BJP has been paid back. Well, Mr. Mukherjee, dont forget that you will come to us for votes in 2014. And I assure you I and others will pay you back in the same coin, and you will rue the fact that you chose to use such language against Shri. Advani on a perfectly relevant issue. Go to hell, Pranab and take your party with you.

Why Pranav Mukharji is Angry ? by V.J. Mayani on 27 Nov 2009

Instead of becoming angry at L.K. Advani, The government should make Indian Police, Intelligence and Anti terrorist squad stronger enough with latest equipments with modern technology to fight with terrorist before they react.

Pranab the barking Dog. by P.H.Bhanage on 27 Nov 2009

First it was Mr. Liberhan now this mad dog throwing tantrums. What is wrong if the opposition leader enquires/questions the status of help to the victims. After 2005 local train blasts if rehabilitation of victims has not been done who is responsible. If Mr. Advani's information about the status of help is not correct; refute it with facts instead of barking.(That is of course done to please the Italian Mistress). When they dig out IC 814 it is not politics, they shed tears only for Ahmedabad carnage, leaving out Godhra victims,it is not politics, when they talk about attack on Parliament it is pure patriotism. We had enough of this character.

26/11 Anniversary turns into a Verbal Duel in Parliament by Shadi Katyal on 27 Nov 2009

Let us look at the history and notice that the man who went to Bombay during the terrorist attack and Security has to be provided for him is the man named L K ADVANI. He was the cause of communal trouble with his Rath Yatras. In this age of technology he is living in the past.It was him and his party who wanted to build Ram Temple and thus destroyed Babri Masjid. He also praised Jinnah about his speech of August 11,1947 which was just an eye was for minorities. Waws Jinnah not aware of Punjab burning or man who ordered the killings in Bengal in 1946 by Direct Action. L.K.Advanit should be ashamed of his behavior in the Parliament. ever since his party lost , he has become anti-parliamentary procedures. Look at his background in the past ever since loosing elections. Yes I agree that we get we what we deserve but unfortunately our election system borrowed from Britain is wrong. We are told to vote whoever party nominate. How many of us even know our MLA or MP

pranab Vs. Advani by Balu on 27 Nov 2009

It is most unfortunate Pranab busted out, but doesn't undesrstand that every govt is failing to do thier basic duty in not compensating the victims in such attacks, riots, accident etc. Every one remebers Bhopal Gas tragedy and Congress dragged decades after decades to find solution. Pranab da must go, an inefficient "Yes Boss" man has immense luck to pull on for many decades! With his bengali smell english he dragged nation to many disasters ans still thriving from Govt invome, shame on him. But one question to Advani, why did he wait till anniversary to ask the Govt on this? He too is after all a politican and an opportunist!!!

26/11 anniversary turns into a verbal duel in Parliament by sivaram maratha on 26 Nov 2009

Dear Pranab: Pay the vicitims of 26/11 immediately. Advani is not politicizing on this issue. "PAY THE VICITIMS" now. Shame on you for delaying their payments.

congress..... by adaamin on 26 Nov 2009

By the way congress is behaving it seems they do not want any opposition party. An what wrong did the opposition say? Shame on all who voted for the congress and shame on all who did not vote.

26/11 Tragedy by M.V.Muthu on 26 Nov 2009

It is amazing that when the genuine issue regarding the plight of delay /non-reciept of compensation of the victims is raised in parliament, the same is branded as politicising the matter on this solemn occasion. If such a lapse is not pointed out now, when will it be then? The government should take off its dark lenses and act and fast.

UPA OWES AN EXPLANATION by harun on 26 Nov 2009

Whats there for Pranab to react angrily ,all that Advani did was make a grave charge of the Congress of deceit against the victims of terror. If at all Advani made a baseless charge,Pranab should have had the balls to tell Advani that he was a liar.Instead accussing him of indulging in politics on terror is bypassing the truth.Rahul baba must ask his cronies who rule Mumbai to atleast pay the pittance promised to the families of the victims.

Anger by Indian on 26 Nov 2009

Immature people get angry because they are incompetent and inefficient which they know they can not do any good to tax payers except for themselves let this guy shed his high security ring and allot those people to protect and maintain law and order for the common man and let him punish the terrorists promptly and move the COMMON LAW FOR ALL INDIANS INCLUDING J & K in parliament these guys believe in NATO no action talk only. May god bless India Jaihind

Our Substandard Politicians by Anant on 26 Nov 2009

Could Advani not wait till next day to bark. Today was a day of mourning. This stupid politician has to try to win some brownie points at the expense of the tragedy the nation has suffered. Mukherjee was quite right to bark at Advani. Looks like Advani and his rogue BJP don't learn that the people of India have moved on and expect better behaviour from even the substandard politicians. Indians should wake up and start voting for better leaders. Forget religious politics and vote for previous and intended performance. All this nonsense of Ram Mandir and yatras should be left to pandits. Make Advani a priest in a temple and he can do as many yatras as he wants.

What do understand of the loss? by Apaaraa on 27 Nov 2009

You seem to be barking just like your favourite minister, please shut up.

verbal duel in Parliament by B.K.Kumar on 26 Nov 2009

Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee , please direct your anger at your fellow politicians who have looted India and amassed this in SWISS BANK. Take immediate concrete action to bring back this money to India and I sure with that money you can compensate all victims right from 1947 and perhaps future victims also

Active politics by rohit-qatar on 26 Nov 2009

We welcome active and live politics by vibrant BJP and demoralise one, good work by opposition, keep it up.

Shame congress by Nakul on 26 Nov 2009

Mr. Pranabda... please work for betterment of country.. Don't think yourself as default ministers at Delhi...People may show Congress its real place some day.. Before that please work for the people. Your anger is reasonless and useless. Adwani's anger is right sometimes...like today...

Mr. Mukherjees Anger by A. Pradeep on 26 Nov 2009

Instead of directing his anger at Advani, perhaps Mukherjee and his colleagues should direct their anger at the terrorists and their supporters who, even today, roam freely in Pakistan. Mukherjee could direct his anger at the system that leaves victims without help and the guilty well cared for.

People get the goverment they deserve! by Indian on 26 Nov 2009

I strongly believe that people get the goverment they deserve. 26/11 was definitely the shameful act and it should be condemned. But just by passing whole responsibility to elected leaders doesnot solve the problems. All the Mumbaikars who show solidarity against terrorism, where were they on election day? Indian citizen have to spend just 10 minutes in 5 years for nation and 65% do not do it (south mumbai). If we are so selfish, then why blame politicians?

Perfect Reply by Santosh Kumar on 26 Nov 2009

Perfectly said. thats why we have leaders like RR Patil and Vilas Deshmukh getting elected. this means people in constituencies are bothered about local issues and not about national interest. Same is the case with the affluent rich of Mumbai

There was no reason for Mr. Mukherjee to react this way. by (Dr.) B.N.Anand on 26 Nov 2009

Sir I do not understand what was there for Mr. Mukherjee to lose temper. After all, the leader of opposition was only bringing to the notice of the govt. the slow pace of compensation to the victims of 26/11. What is wrong about this? Besides symbolic gestures of showing solidarity with the victims families through speeches, let us be more practical. Why is it so difficult to carry out the promised relief to the victims families? This has not been done even in one year of the Mumbai carnage. The govt. should heed to the suggestion of creating a cell in the Home ministry to accelrate the implementation of the promised relief and an agency to monitor its implementation.Rather the govt. should have shown the grace to accept the suggestion on the floor of the House. It is the UPA govt. which is playing politics in this regard. Instead of appreciating the suggestion of Mr. Advani, there was no reason for Mr. Mukherjee to react in the manner he did it.

multiple choice questions by Ameet on 26 Nov 2009

We have money to put Politicians photos on National Highways every 25 km.

It is duty of conscious opposition by Vikash Anand on 26 Nov 2009

Pranav Mukharjee should know that parliament is for politics. It is duty of Opposition to raise the issue strongly and keep check and balance on ruling government.Otherwise government can divert from its duty.So Pranav is wrong Advani is not politicizing but he is doing his duty as leader of opposition.Pranav should not be irritating.

Pranab pays politics when Congress govt incompetence is exposed by asha on 26 Nov 2009

It looks like Pranab is the one trying to politicize the issue by attacking Advani instead of responding to the question about victim compensation.

Biased media..!! Indians beaware of MEDIA... not Congress!! by Chandra SG on 26 Nov 2009

Man without any shame by Jas on 26 Nov 2009

It is amazing that this shameless and immoral advani has the galls to face the nation. But then again I am forgetting this nation has counless brainless monkeys who need to be represented in a democracy.

you are one of them. by commie.basher on 27 Nov 2009

and you are one of them jas. dont be a$hamed of who you are. If you think that you are not one of the countless m0nkeys, you are free to leave to a place where you will be welcome.

Couldnt understand the logic of your statement.Government is being reminded of their duty... Is there anything communal about it

26/11 anniversary turns into a verbal duel in Parliament by DK on 26 Nov 2009

It is shoking to see how India Express is puting things into perspective that supports the ruling party and depicts wrongness of oposition. By doing this Indian express is becoming Congress Express intead IE. For instance whatever issues on 26/11 oposition has raised today are very relevent and needed to be highlighted but the title of the news just shows something els.

26/11 anniversary turns into a verbal duel in Parliament by M on 27 Nov 2009

There is one more newspaper in addition to this one "Times of Congress".

What happened on 26/11?? can someone tell me what happened?? by Badhrinath on 26 Nov 2009

Damn people!! I am very disappointed with all of you for spending so much time discussing non-issues like 26/11. We Indians, including me have no value systems. because if we had one we would not be discussing something which happened last year. Let us face it, the government is not worried about it, nor the aam aadmi nor the millions who go to sleep without a meal nor the millions of soldiers fighting in Kashmir nor the madhu koda nor A raja. To be frank 97% Indians don't know and don't care. They have to worry about their daily life and people like koda and raja have to worry about how many crores they can make. I don't see anybody bothered about the millions of parents who sell their kids into bonded labor to feed. 26/11 was tragic, then thinking of it most who died did not think they would become victims of this attack. But what about the millions who die everyday and wakeup to die again... I am talking about the millions who live on $1 a day. Hope you show similar compassion too!
