Ghaziabad, February 29 A 28-Year-Old woman died at Guru Tegh Bahadur Hospital in Shahdara after her in-laws forced her to drink acid on Thursday, police said.

According to police, the victim, Mamta, got married to Satish—the main accused—seven years back and the couple has three children.

The victim’s brother, in a case filed at the Sahibabad Police Station against five of her family members, said Mamta was beaten up often for more dowry.

According to the complaint, Mamta left for her relative’s house in Delhi along with her children after a brawl with her husband on Wednesday.

Mamta returned home yesterday after Satish, her mother-in-law Sani, father-in-law Vijaypal and sisters-in-law Soni and Neelam, persuaded her. She was later beaten up and forced to consume acid, the complaint said.

While her in-laws fled, taking the children along, neighbours took Mamta to hospital where she died late at night.

SSP Deepak Ratan said, “We are questioning the neighbours and the family members will be tracked soon. Our priority is to recover the children.”

Mamta’s body has been sent for postmortem.
