Nearly 295 post offices across the state are expected to get a facelift under Project Arrow. The national project, which was launched by the Department of Posts (DoP), entered its third phase this year.

DoP will also put emphasis on giving a new look to the posts offices located at important government offices and pilgrimages in the state.

Project Arrow is the brainchild of Union Minister of State for Communications and IT, Jyotiraditya Scindia. Through the project, e-enabled services like e-Post, Western Union Money Transfer (WUMT) and Instant Money Order Service will now be extended to post offices in rural areas.

While Gujarat was not included in the first phase of the project, 10 rural post offices were taken from the state in the second phase. In the third phase, nearly 295 post offices will be taken under the project, said N D Prajapati, Senior Superintendent of Post Office, Vadodara East region. He, however, added that the postmen will continue to wear the coloured uniforms in which they are identified.”

The project, which was launched in 2008 on a pilot basis, will undertake more post offices with the aim to give them a corporate look and keeping them at par with other courier services across the country.

Officials said that there will be a few changes in the uniform of some of the employees, such as those looking after the reception.

“The employees sitting on the reception or the front line men will now be wearing Khakhi uniform,” said Prajapati.
