Special CBI Judge Harminder Singh Madan, in his brief order, held that there was enough evidence produced on record by the CBI to grant police remand.
The CBI had earlier sought two-day police custody to investigate the modus operandi by which money was collected by them in the scandal.
They are accused of extorting money from high-profile and wealthy persons.
The defence counsels argued that their clients were "innocent" and were being framed". The CBI also placed before the court the record of their investigations leading to the involvement of the two officers. The CBI also told the court that Rs 7 lakh were recovered during raids at the residences of the accused officers in Chandigarh, Jalandhar and Ropar.
CBI sources said Rs 4.82 lakh were recovered from the residence of Garcha in Jalandhar, while another about Rs 2.5 lakh were recovered from the Ropar residence of Sandhu. Some documents were also seized.
