Mumbai The Dadar police on Sunday arrested three men for robbery. The arrested persons, Jai Dharamaraj Ubale (25), Hemant Rawal (30) and Vinod Ubale (25) were involved in a robbery on Saturday night, police said, adding that they had broken into Mira Creations, a garments shop, on Bhawani Shankar Road in Dadar and robbed Rs 3 lakh in cash.

On Sunday, a team of policemen of the Dadar police station, spotted three men on Bhawani Shankar Road in Dadar. When they called the trio, they tried to flee. “ One of them —Jai Dharamaraj Ubale (25) who is a notorious robber— was identified by the policemen. As many as 23 cases were registered against him. Though one of our constables yelled at him and asked him to wait, they tried to flee in a car. However, we managed to nab them,” said Senior Police Inspector Madhukar Sankhe.

A police officer on condition of anonymity said that as Ubale was arrested several times by the Dadar police, he could recognise one of the constables in the team. “When the constable asked him to stop, he confessed that they were on the run after committing a robbery. They even offered bribe to the constable, if he would agree to allow them go. However, the constable alerted us and we arrested the trio,” said the official.

“While a search on Ubale’s body yielded nothing, we found that Rawal and Vinod were carrying around Rs 25,000 each. This has confirmed our suspicion. We the asked Ubale to lead us to his house. We recovered over Rs 2 lakh from his house. He had stashed the money in a sack and hidden it on the parapet of his house in Dholakwala chawl,” said Police Sub-Inspector Vinod Kalekar.

Further investigation revealed that Ubale, who is allegedly the son of a local RPI activist, had 23robbery cases against him. Rawal is adept at bag-lifting from the Bombay Central station. He had four cases of robbery registered against him at Worli. Vinod runs a tea stall outside Ubale’s house in Dadar. He had been roped in by others and he was promised Rs 25,000.
