3 arrested for taking loan with forged documents

Kolkata, February 6 Sleuths of the Kolkata police’s Detective Department (DD) have arrested five persons since Tuesday in seperate bank and cheating frauds. Four were arrested for taking loans from banks through fake documents while one was arrested for cheating a person.

Soumen Maitra (37) had taken a loan of Rs 6.78 lakh from the State Bank of India (SBI) to start a business by furnishing fake documents. He was arrested from Tollygunge on Tuesday.

In a similar case, Ramesh Dixit of Rishra had taken a loan of Rs 11 lakh to build a house, from the HSBC Bank at Hare Street. Dixit, who too had produced fake documents, was arrested on Wednesday.

The DD, the same day, also arrested Debasis Mandal and Baban Deb from Baranagar. The duo also had taken a loan of Rs 6.55 lakh from the SBI Baranagar branch. They too had taken the loan for constructing a flat, police said.

In another incident, Shibaji Dasgupta was arrested from Karya on Tuesday for cheating a person of about Rs 26,000 for promising a job at Reliance. Dasgupta was produced in court today and remanded in police custody till February 8.

Man lynched in North Dinajpur
Raigunj:
A man was lynched by villagers in North Dinajpur district on the basis of an allegation that he was a thief, the police said on Wednesday. Mohd Safikul (28) was lynched last night by residents of Ramganj village in Chopra area. His body was recovered by the police this morning. The police said several articles allegedly stolen from the houses of villagers were recovered from his possession. An FIR has been lodged by the police in this connection but no arrests have been made. —
