3 youths held for stealing silver idols from temple

Ludhiana Three youths have been arrested by the Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) police on charges of stealing silver idols from a temple on January 10. The accused were trying to sell the idols to arrange money for drugs.

Bantu Kumar, Shyam Lal and Krishan Singh, aged between 22 and 25 years, are the residents of Basti Jodhewal area. The police also have recovered stolen idols from their posession. Giving details, CIA-II in-charge Sub-Inspector Dilpreet Singh told mediapersons that following a tip-off, the trio were arrested late last evening.

The S-I said the accused had stolen idols from the Durga Mata Temple in the Jamalpur Mundian area on January 10.

After stealing the idols from the temple, the trio made good their escape under the cover of darkness. Since then, they had been trying to sell these idols. They were arrested late last night from near the Veer Palace where the police had set up a naka to nab them.

The S-I said the accused had been booked in a case under various provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and had been sent to jail.
