At Dhami Eye Care Hospital, Kichlu Nagar, 13 patients with burns in their eyes were treated since last night. “Three of the 13 patients had suffered serious damage to the eyes, while others were relatively minor cases,” said Dr G S Dhami of Dhami Eye Care Hospital.
He said a seven-year-old boy had hurt his left eye badly after splinters from a firecracker hit straight in his face, another patient had damaged his cornea lens and retina damaged and the third patient had suffered from hypheama, where collection of blood takes place in eyeball.
“In most of the cases, where the victims were hit in the eyes, were standing on rooftops to watch the fireworks taking place in their respective streets,” Dr Dhami said.
The authorities and resident welfare associations should hold fireworks at one place in a locality so that injuries like these could be avoided, he added.
Eight patients with burn injuries were admitted to Dayanand Medical College and Hospita, while four were taken to Civil Hospital for treatment.
