300 caught for drunken driving

Mumbai Over 300 people were detained and fined by officials from the Traffic Police Department on Wednesday on charges of drunken driving throughout various parts of the city.

As per DCP Harish Baijal (Traffic), “We had set up nakabandis at various places in the city since the morning on Holi. Till 7 pm in the evening, we netted 333 people for drunken driving.” Baijal further informed that out of the 333 netted, 176 were produced in the magistrate courts in their locality, out of which 90 were granted simple imprisonment by the traffic police and the licenses of all 90 were suspended for six months.

“Most of the arrests for drunken driving were made in different areas of Trombay, where we caught 26 people, followed by 24 in Vakola and 22 in Malad. The accused were in the age group of 20-30. However, there were no women or repeat offenders in the lot which was arrested for drunken driving,” added Baijal.
