Kolkata Around 33,000 police and security personnel would be deployed to maintain law and order during the civic polls in 81 municipalities and corporations in Bengal on May 30.

Of them, only 36 companies would be available from the Centre and other states, said Director General of Police (DGP) Bhupinder Singh, on Wednesday.

“The state government, however, placed its demand for 132 companies of Central force. Let’s see how much would be available finally,” the DGP said.

Meanwhile, the state Election Commission has directed to deploy Central forces inside booths, wherever needed.

The DGP said this time the deployment of armed police would be the highest ever for any civic polls in the state.

Elaborating the classification of sensitive booths, Singh said that 51 wards in Kolkata’s added area would be treated as category-I sensitive area, while wards under Bidhannagar and Barrackpore have been grouped in category-II and category-III sensitive areas respectively, Singh said.

Wards under the rest of civic bodies in the state would come under category-IV sensitive area, he added.
