Baby elephant found dead
A baby elephant was found dead near the Subarnarekha river in Jadavpur village of Midnapore on Sunday. The villagers immediately informed the Forest Department officials, who rushed to the spot to collect the viscera of the animal. It was later sent for laboratory tests to ascertain the cause of the death.

Fire at Hiland Park shopping mall
A major disaster was averted on Sunday after a fire that originated in a shopping mall at Hiland Park in East Jadavpur was doused by the fire brigade. “The fire originated in the false ceiling of a shop on the third floor. The employees of the shop raised an alarm in time and we rushed four fire tenders to the site. Firefighters immediately evacuated the mall and doused the flames,” said a fire brigade official.

IIMTF organisers plan fair in May
Riding high on the success of the India International Mega Trade Fair (IIMTF), its organisers are planning to hold another consumer fair at the Salt Lake Stadium in May. Unlike the 12-day IIMTF, which concluded on Sunday, the Salt Lake fair is expected to draw more crowd as it will showcase lifestyle products with on the spot finance facility. "We are expecting a visitors' footfall of nearly 5 lakh with sales reaching up to Rs 400 crore. More than 400 firms will be at the exhibition," said IIMTF chairman
