Vadodara, January 11 A 35-year-old man was stabbed to death by a fellow villager in a Borsad taluka village of Anand district, following a quarrel between their children over kite flying.

Borsad police said that one Bhailal Thakor was killed while his cousin suffered injuries when one Buddhabhai Rabad attacked them in Nisraya village. The trouble erupted when the children of the two families started fighting and they were soon joined by their elders.

According to Jayanti Thakor, the cousin of the deceased, the accused accosted Bhailal after which they had an argument on the outskirts of the village over this issue. Rabad then stabbed Bhailal in the stomach, and when his cousin Raman Thakor tried to save him, he was also stabbed. While Raman survived the injuries, Bhailal succumbed to it.

Rabad fled from the scene immediately, police said, adding, "Temper runs high in this region and violence between neighbours or fellow villagers over kite flying is not very surprising."

Incidents of kite snatching and fights are common during the kite flying season. Police have already issued a safety notification urging people not to fly kites in public places, especially on the roads. They have also urged parents to be vigilant while allowing their children to use rooftops and terraces during the festival, which will begin this weekend.
