Acting on a tip-off, SOG officials maintained a watch on the Ring Road near Kinnary theatre, and caught the four when they were moving around suspiciously. During questioning, the officials found that they hail from Bangladesh.
They were arrested when they failed to give the necessary documents sought by the police.
The arrested were identified as Jalil Shaikh, Hajdul Shaikh, Miraz Shaikh and Mujibur Rehman Shaikh. Jalial hail from Khulda, while Hajdul and Mujibur Rehman belong to Nadai district, and Miraz hail from Jashor district in Bangladesh.
SOG Inspector R G Desai said, “The arrested persons were working as labourers in textile industries and other places where they got work. They were staying in a single room hired on rent. They had come to India a couple of months ago. They confessed that they crossed the international border with the help of some people by paying some cash.”
He added that nothing suspicious was found from their room. However, one of the arrested Jalil Shaikh knows Hilal Mulla and Habibur Rehman Shaikh, who were caught by the crime branch with 98 counterfeit notes of Rs1,000 denomination couple of days ago.
“We suspect that Jail might be involved in the circulation of the counterfeit notes in the local market. We have launched investigations in the case and more details will come out soon,” Desai said.
