Initial estimates showed that about 60 per cent of the electorate cast their vote in 69 out of the 70 constituencies which witnessed a tough battle between the ruling Congress and Opposition BJP for power in the national capital.
Chief Electoral Officer Satbir Sailas Bedi said the elections were peaceful though there were four incidents of minor violence during the polling which began at 8 am amid 52,000 police personnel keeping a tight vigil.
Four BSP workers were injured in clashes in Okhla area while two persons were arrested in Mehrauli for trespassing into polling booths unauthorisedly, an election official said.
Preliminary information suggests that the highest and lowest turnouts were in two constituencies of south-west Delhi with 63 and 55 per cent respectively.
There was a quantum jump in the polling percentage in 2008 compared to that of 53.4 per cent in 2003 and 49 per cent in 1998. In 1993 when Delhi faced the first elections, the polling percentage was 61.8 per cent.
Elections are being held in 69 out of the 70 Assembly constituencies while polling for the remaining one will be held on December 13. The polling for the Rajendra Nagar seat was rescheduled after BJP candidate Puran Chand Yogi allegedly committed suicide in the midst of campaigning.
The stakes were high for Sheila Dikshit, Chief Minister for the past ten years, who faced voters on development while BJP, led by its Chief Ministerial candidate V K Malhotra, was hoping to cash in on anti- incumbency and BSP's 'spoiler effect' on the Congress.

I was astounded by the terribly poor choice of candidates by the Congress in Delhi. If this is the choice of CWC in whcih some candidates were totally devoid of any merit at all. I wanted to vote for congress but looking at the terrible candidates I did not.
Congress is no good and should be outright rejected.
Blame BJP for terror attacks in whatever states they are in power.Blame them also when they are out of power.But dont touch Sonia,Manmoham and Patil.Only then u will be called secular by elite section and media.If BJP raise security issue,then blame them for playing politics.If they try to tighten security in their ruled states, blame them for planning atrocities against muslim.Remember only way out is congress way: Minority appeasement.Support congress in this grave hours by following their principle.Only then one would be termed as secular.By the way if u can device a strategy to blame Sangh parivar for being the Mastermind behind Mumbai attack that can be fruitful to you.... you would be approached by Cong,Left,Media,NGO etc. etc. So keep trying.
It is really painfull to any indian muslim to hear that an yet another terror attack by those animals for "Muslim Cause". When they will came to know that their prime victims are the Muslims them selves?

Mere claiming that we are secular country is notr sufficient government should demonstrate it also by their actions. Like for example government can reserve 25% seat each for all 4 prime religions(Hindu, Muslim, Sikh and Isai) in army , airforce and navy. It will be a good message to all minorities. Then only the attrocities against minorities will decline. Mrs. Sonia Gandhi should take this point seriously mere giving defence ministry to AK Anthony will not help. We need somebody like Arjun Singh who did a good job in IITs, IIM, Aiims and making 5 AMU universities on IIT pattern. We have great hope with UPA government.

Mrs.Dixit is a respectable woman and a capable administrator. But unfortunately she belongs to a party which will do anything to remain in power and the history has proved it. More dangerous could be the rise of insecticides like Mayawati and Mulayam Yadav, Amar Singh Choudhry.
