Mumbai A 45-year-old man was arrested for allegedly murdering his former employer on February 18 outside Metropolitan Magistrate court in Bandra (E).

The Nirmal Nagar police picked up the accused Bansi Gaekwad from his village in Parbhani district after he killed Raosaheb Ravan Thoke, a labour supplier for BMC, and fled. Gaekwad has been charged with murder and will be produced in court on Tuesday.

According to the police, Thoke married Gaekwad’s wife after the death of his second. Gaekwad blamed Thoke for the separation and was angry after the duo got married.

According to the police, Gaekwad had covered his face with a mask and had attacked Thoke with a sickle while he was drinking tea at a stall in Bandra. He followed Thoke when he tried to escape and attacked him again which led to his death. After killing him, Gaekwad threatened Thoke’s son and onlookers and fled the scene.

“Thoke’s first wife had died a long time ago and he has a son, Akash, from the wedlock. He remarried and had a seven-year-old daughter from his second wife who also died three years ago. Gaekwad was working for Thoke and his wife Chandrakala used to take care of Gaekwad’s second wife before she died. After Thoke’s second wife died, he married Chandrakala and asked Gaekwad to leave them alone,” said police inspector Rahim Sheikh of Nirmal Nagar police station.

He added, “Thoke then left for his village with his three children. Some time later, Chandrakala and Thoke had a fight and she went back to Gaekwad. However, Thoke turned up a few days later and took Chandrakala back with him. He also insulted Gaekwad that infuriated him and he decided to kill Thoke.

According to the police, the enmity between Thoke and Gaekwad came to light while they were interrogating Thoke’s son, Akaksh. They then went to his village and arrested him from there.
