Gandhinagar Ahmedabad-based Centre for Environmental Planning and Technology (CEPT) University will soon become a centre of excellence in terms of infrastructure and the state-owned Gujarat Mineral Development Corporation will launch an incubation centre for young entrepreneurs called “increate” to be set up at a cost of Rs 93.21 crore.

These were among a string of proposals cleared by a high-level committee of the state government on critical infrastructure on Tuesday.

Five new centres of excellence in various sectors, to come up at a cost of around Rs 124 crore, were cleared by this committee, besides 16 other projects worth around Rs 490 crore related to basic infrastructure in industrial areas.

Sources in the state industry department said, “The state government has cleared proposals for centres of excellence in infrastructure in the CEPT university, in nano technology, in chemical engineering at IIT-Gandhinagar and in Ahmedabad Textile and Industry Research Association.”

During the last Vibrant Gujarat summit, CEPT university had signed 2 MoUs with the government, of which one was for infrastructure.

All these projects will come up in Ahmedabad-Gandhinagar, sources said.

“Other projects for internal roads, water supply and storm water drainage in GIDC estates of Dahej, Dediasan, Armbhada, Dhoraji, Chhatral, Pandesara and Anjar were also sanctioned for Rs 171.93 crore.

A railway overbridge near Sachin in Surat, road link between Sanand GIDC estate and Ahmedabad-Viramgam State Highway and a bridge on river Machu near Morbi were also sanctioned for Rs 101.40 crore,” sources said.

Under its new industrial policy in 2009, the government had proposed to identify and fund infrastructure projects which are critical for the development of a particular industrial area. These projects are to be partly funded by the government and the industry association or beneficiary agencies.
