Pune With elections just a few months away, officials who had been taking pains to get the electoral rolls verified for Pune district are grappling with another headache. Nearly 1.27 lakh names have been repeated on the list of 5.40 lakh names, prepared by the election department after an extensive three-month campaign.

Nearly 81,995 names were repeated in the same constituencies and 45,419 repeated in different constituencies.

District Collector Chandrakant Dalvi said he has asked the election department to send notices to the voters whose names have been repeated. After taking their replies into consideration, only one entry per voter will be allowed and the additional entry or entries would be deleted. The administration will be issuing photo identity cards in accordance with the names on the list.

The election office has received photographs of 3.81 lakh voters and is urging people who have not given the photographs to approach their constituencies and give their photographs.

The administration has decided to issue the photo identity cards from February 14. Officials said voters can submit their photograph with an application at polling stations for their photo identity cards.

Around 1.86 lakh names have been added to the list in 21 assembly constituencies while 41,779 names have been deleted, the net addition being 1.45 lakh. Another 61,618 entries were corrected.

The voter list for Pune district can be seen on pune.gov.in. The voters’ names can be found on ceo.maharashtra.gov.
