The employees have been transferred and Inspector Sukhdev Singh has been asked to inquire into the matter, confirmed SGPC secretary Harbeant Singh.
The scandal came to light during the routine checking, when the senior staff of the religious body found 50 sacks of grain inside the hall but there was no entry in the cash register.
“Initially, it seemed that about 100 quintals were siphoned off, but later it was found that 45 sacks were entered in the register,” said the SGPC Secretary.
SGPC executive member Karnail Singh Panjoli has demanded a high-level probe and suspension of the employees. “Why are they just transferred when there is a prima facie case against them? They are getting political shelter and senior functionaries of the SGPC are trying to save them,” said Panjoli.
