Pune The much regaled sensitivity of Rahul Gandhi for the commoner was to the fore again when he helped a 62-year-old lady from a self-help group get back on her feet after she fell down while trying to take a glimpse of the leader at the Congress Bhavan on Tuesday.

Malathi Bhor, representative of the women self-help group Manasi Mahila Unnati Kendra that is participating in the Punawadi exhibition being at the Congress Bhavan, fell down as there was a scramble among those gathered to get near the young leader.

The woman was overwhelmed by the scion’s gesture. When Rahul was getting into his vehicle, he stopped to help the lady up on her feet and offered her a bottle of water. Manasi Mahila Unnati Kendra is founded by former mayor Dipti Chaudhari. “Aap theek hain kya, thoda pani le lo,’’ said the leader to the woman whose eyes welled up in tears and was left almost speechless. “I did not know how to react,’’ she told the media later.

Hailing from Avsari Khurd, Bhor said that she was very keen to see the leader. “There was a huge crowd outside the hall and as he was leaving and I fell down while trying to have his glimpse. Rahulji rushed and helped me stand up and even asked some people who pushed me to move back,’’ she recounted the event.

He is a very good leader and is very warm to people, gushed Malathi who got busy giving interviews to the media on her brush with the young Congress leader.
