New Delhi A 68-year-old man has gone missing under mysterious circumstances, after meeting with an accident earlier in the day. Shambu Singh was hit by a scooter and beat constables directed the scooterist to rush him to a nearby hospital.

He has not been seen since.

The incident was reported at 10 am on Wednesday on DBG Road in Central Delhi. Singh’s relatives said that he had left his West Patel Nagar residence at 9.15 am to go to the cloth shop in Karol Bagh where he works as a salesman.

Singh’s son, Jaipal Singh later received a call from the shop owner, informing him that he had met with an accident on DBG Road.

“I was told that my father was crossing DBG Road after getting down from the bus, when a scooterist hit him. My father fell unconscious on the road. A driver who works in my father’s showroom told me that beat constables in the area had directed the scooterist, Ankit Bansal to take him to the nearby Bali Nursing Home in an autorickshaw,” said Singh’s son, Jaipal Singh. The autorickshaw driver said he dropped Bansal and Singh outside Bali Nursing Home. Singh was still unconscious. The driver left after Bansal paid him. Jaipal Singh, however, said when he went looking for his father to Bali Hospital, he was told no such patient was brought in.

Police said a case of rash and negligent driving has been registered against Bansal and investigations are on. A missing case also has been registered.

During questioning, Bansal told the police that on the way to hospital Singh had regained consciousness. Bansal paid the autorickshaw driver Rs 10 and Rs 100 to Singh for his treatment. Bansal claimed that Singh told him he was feeling alright. Police have detained Bansal for further questioning and have also recorded the statement of the autorickshaw driver.

Singh lives in West Patel Nagar with his wife, two sons, their wives and two grandsons. Jaipal runs a tuition centre in Patel Nagar, officials said.
