7 more held in connection with IPL betting racket

Kolkata, April 24: Seven persons were arrested for betting on the Indian Premier League (IPL) matches taking the total number of arrests to 12.

Acting on a tip-off, police raided the port area of the city and arrested six persons involved in the betting racket from a house in the Iqbalpur Road, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Port) Anant Kumar said.

A colour TV set, five mobile phones, one speculation sheet and some documents of betting used during IPL matches were recovered from the house.

All the six have been taken into custody, Kumar said.

Earlier in the day, Kolkata Police nabbed Manoj Mau from Rabindra Sarani in central Kolkata in connection with the betting racket.

Mau was arrested after interrogation of the five arrested on April 21, Deputy Commissioner (Detective Department), Jawed Samim said.

A television set and a cell phone were seized from him.

The five arrested on April 21 are - Bishnu Mundra, Adarsh Mohta, Baldev Damani, Mayank Damani and Dilip Sharma.
