Rajkot A 70-Year-old lady from Rajkot was arrested for her alleged involvement in a 29-year-old land case.

Manjula Mandalia of Devpara Society had allegedly pretended to be an NRI woman, who died in 1979, and forged her signature to make a fake power of attorney to transfer her property to two of her accomplices.

The issue came to light after one Jayprakash Kangad, a resident of Prahlad plot, registered a complaint with the Gandhigram police last week saying that the land, which he had inherited from an NRI relative, was grabbed by Deprakash Kacha and Chunilal Kacha.

The police found that this land originally belonged to a London-based woman, Labhuben Patani. Kangad said in his complaint that Patani had made a power of attorney for this piece of land in his name.

Kangad had later transferred the ownership to his son. But now, the Kachas have claimed ownership of the land.

The police, meanwhile, have claimed that they have found that the Kachas had forged the land deal documents and made a lady sign as the deceased Patani. The police said it was Mandalia, who, posing as Pattani, had signed the power of attorney in favour of Kacha.

“Mandalia has been arrested, while the Kachas are absconding,” said the police. Preliminary investigation revealed that Mandalia agreed to impersonate Pattani for a “fee” of Rs 40,000, said the police.
