“We have deployed seven companies of CRPF in Kolkata. Apart from the CRPF, we have state armed police and Kolkata police deployed in the city,” said Singh.
“We have deployed forces following the instructions of the Election Commission. The police in several districts have started picking up people as part of the special drive,” he added.
“In the last 18 days, we have picked up 746 toughs from several corners of the city. We have seized 60 firearms and 145 bombs from different parts of the city,” said a senior police officer.
Meanwhile, police today recovered 30 bombs from Beniapukur in central Kolkata, 18 bombs from Topsia on eastern fringe of Kolkata and six bombs from Narkeldanga in north Kolkata.
The state Election Commission has declared all the booths in the city as sensitive.
“We have planned the police deployment accordingly. Around 16,000 police personnel will be deployed in the city. Around 73 mobile teams of Kolkata police will be patrol duty. We will set up 200 pickets in several sensitive points of the city,” added the officer.
