New Delhi, February 6 A 71-year-old man was found murdered at his residence in Patel Nagar in west Delhi on Tuesday. The tragic part was that the deceased, Vijender Gupta, was found dead on his birthday. He had turned 71 on Tuesday.

He resided alone at 345/12, Patel Nagar. Police officers said Gupta was strangulated to death with a muffler and his hands and legs were also tied with a rope. Officers said they received a call from a person, saying a senior citizen was not opening his door and when seen through the window his hands and legs were tied up. Police rushed to the spot and opened the door.

"By the time we reached there, he was dead," a police officer said. Police said the person who had called up the police had gone to Gupta's house to convey birthday wishes.

Police officers said Gupta gave tuition classes to children in the area and was referred to as "professor sahab". A case of murder has been registered against unknown assailants at Patel Nagar Police Station.
