The civic elections for 75 bodies will be held on Sunday across the state, in which polling will be held for 1953 seats falling under 639 wards. Nearly 25 lakh urban and semi urban voters are expected to exercise their franchise at 1970 polling booths.
In Junagadh district, polling will be held in seven Nagar Palika seats - Bantwa-21, Chorwad-21, Mangarol-33, Visavadar-21, Vanthali-21 and Manawadar-27.
The bypoll for one seat in Una Nagar Palika will also be held, while the entire Kodinar Nagar Palika has been declared 'Samaras' and all 27 candidates have been declared uncontested winners.
In Junagadh, 429 candidates are reportedly in the fray for 145 seats falling under 49 wards in seven Nagar Palikas. According to Junagadh district election branch (Municipality), voting will start at 8 am and will continue till 5 pm. Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) will be used for which the pre-poll process has been completed well in advance.
In addition to seven returning officers, District Collector and District Election Officer Aswini Kumar has been monitoring the poll process, beside the State Election Commission has appointed its two observers to keep a close watch on the proceedings, sources said. On the law and order front, local police force along with administration officials are keeping a tab on the situation.
In Nagar Palika elections, voters have to cast three votes to select their candidates.
On most of the seats, the main contest will be between archrivals — the Bharatiya Janta Party and the Congress.
However, at some places independent candidates are expected to spring a surprise.
