Panchkula More than 150 locals blocked traffic on the Chandimandir-Jallah road for over four hours today after a seven-year-old child was crushed under a truck. While the police arrested the driver, locals claimed that despite several accidents, the administration has failed to install speed-breakers on the road. Being a crusher zone, more than 3,500 heavy utility vehicles ply on the Chandimandir-Jallah road daily.

“The victim, Rahul, was playing near his slum when the accident occurred. The heavily loaded truck of the construction company implementing the four-laning project was taking a U-turn... the child came under it and died on the spot. He was the son of a labourer. The C and C construction company has its godown in the crusher zone with hundreds of trucks being used to transport their material from there,” said a police officer.

The victim was rushed to the General Hospital in Sector 6 where he was declared ‘dead on arrival’. Asha Devi, block member of the Panchayat Samiti, said they would protest till the time the authorities take some action. The residents also demanded an independent route for the trucks to ply and speed-breakers on the entire stretch to curb the number of accidents.
