Ahmedabad Cops suspect the girl, daughter of a jobless diamond worker, was raped before being murdered

Three days after the seven-year-old daughter of a jobless diamond polisher had gone missing from her residence, her body was found from inside a lavatory in a municipal school at Bapunagar on Wednesday.

The body, found at Municipal School No 13-14, had several injury marks. She seemed to have been raped before the

murder, suspect the police, as it was lying in a semi-naked state.

The police, however, are waiting for the post-mortem and FSL reports to confirm this.

“The door of the lavatory was bolted from outside

and the body was spotted when a school sweeper opened the door,” said Bapunagar police Inspector L P Gandhe.

A complaint of murder and rape has been registered with the Bapunagar police.

Gandhe said they were on the lookout for the killer, who is suspected to be acquainted with the victim's family.

Investigating officers have stared questioning several persons in this connection. “We are looking for someone who may have seen the victim with the accused that day,” Gandhe added.

The victim, a Class II student of Shreeji Vidyalaya in Bapunagar, lived with her parents at Marwadi Ni Chali in Bapunagar and had gone missing from her residence on Sunday morning.

Her parents had intimated the Bapunagar police about this.

Her father, Bhumaji Marwadi, worked in a diamond polishing unit in Bapunagar, until a few months ago, before it was shut because of the financial meltdown.

“Bhumaji, his brother and other male members in the family worked as diamond polishers and were jobless for the past several months. Bhumaji, however, had recently started working as a daily wager,” said Gandhe.
