The six have registered a complaint with the Dhoraji court in this regard after which they were sent to a local hospital for treatment on Saturday.

The policemen allegedly severely beat up the accused, including causing injuries to their private parts, to force confession.

According to Suresh Faldu, defence lawyer, Karshan Savalia, Arvind Ramolia, Vaju Vekaria, Dilip Savalia, Girdhar Ramolia and Jitu Savalia were picked up by the Kalawad police on February 5.

They were detained six days after Bhavansinh Jadeja, a resident of Kanavadala village, was found dead between Dadvi and Kharedi.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Jadeja, a private recovery agent, died after sustaining injuries on the head.

The torture allegations have been made against Kalawad police station constables Nakum, P P Zala, Pravinsinh, Jorubha, Ranmal Gadhvi, Mahesh Goswami, circle inspector Vyas and Jamkandorna police constable M A Parmar.

The allegations were levelled when the accused were produced before the court by the police to seek their remand.

The six told the court that they were arrested without filing any FIR or case and kept illegally in custody for several days.

It has been alleged that the arrests were shown to have been made on a past date only after the family of accused threatened to move the human rights commission.

According to the complaint registered with the court, the police have shown the arrests were made on February 10.

However, it is alleged that they were arrested after February 12, and later, their custody was handed over to the Jamkandorna police, as Jadeja was reportedly killed in their jurisdiction.
