As many as 2,100 personnel belonging to the Department of Health, Education and Social Welfare, various nursing institutions, students of GMCH-32, PGIMER, volunteers from various colleges, NSS and NGOs were deputed for the same.
Special arrangements were made to provide oral polio drops at all entry/exit points of the city, ISBT at Sector 17 and 43, railway station and airport.
The campaign will continue for the next two days so that those children who have no t been able to get the vaccine can have it administered. The parents have been requested to cooperate with the teams and get their children vaccinated.
Director Health and Family Welfare, Dr M S Bains, and other senior officials of the Health Department supervised the booth activity to make the Pulse Polio Immunisation Campaign a success. Various voluntary teams of Rotary International from across the world appreciated the work of the team while visiting the pulse polio immunisation campaign sites in different areas.
Maximum attendance was reported from booths located in Bapu Dham, Ram Darbar, Mauli Jagran, Indira Colony, Nehru Colony, Colony No. 4, Colony No. 5, Village Dhanas, Dadumajra, Sarangpur, Khudda Jassu, Khudda Lahora and other parts of the city.
In Panchkula: A polio eradication campaign was launched at the Rajiv Colony in Panchkula on Sunday by the Panchkula Rotary Club. Five international visitors Townes Osborn, Liz Mackintosh, Dominica Pradere, Noelle A Galperin and Louis Ortega came to study and supervise the campaign. President of the Club Pradeep Aggarwal said, “The Milinda Bill Gates Foundation had recently contributed USD 355 million to Rotary International for the worldwide eradication of polio.” Deputy Commissioner Rajendra Kataria also interacted with the international visitors on different issues related to polio. Chairman J K Kakkar and other Rotarians were present during the campaign.
