New Delhi An 8-year-old girl was killed after she was hit by an Ambassador being driven by a driver employed by the Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC), just opposite Hindi Bhawan in the IP Estate area of Central Delhi on Tuesday.

The police said the incident was reported around 10.15 am, when the driver, Satish Kumar, was making his way out of the ESIC complex in an official car. “He was speeding while coming out of the office complex, and hit Angoori, who was playing nearby,” a senior police officer said.

Senior officers said she was taken to Lady Irwin Hospital at Delhi Gate but didn’t survive.

Angoori’s parents, both labourers, have been working at a construction site inside the ESIC complex.

Haridas, her father, said, “We have been working here for the past two months on renovation going on at the complex.”

His wife, Guddi, said, “We were working on the first floor of the building and Angoori was playing on the ground floor inside the complex. We used to bring her here with us as we don’t have anybody at home to look after her in our absence.”

Haridas said a PCR call was made in connection with the incident and Satish was handed over to the police. “He was driving the car rashly even inside the complex,” he said.

The police said Satish has been booked under sections 304 A and 279 (rash and negligent driving), and a case against him has been registered at the IP Estate police station. Further investigations are being conducted into the matter.

Haridas said the police told him that Angoori’s body would be handed over to them on Wednesday after a postmortem.
