Ahmedabad Nine fresh cases of Hepatitis B have been reported from disease-hit Sabarkantha district in the state, health officials said on Sunday. They added that there were no deaths in the last 24 hours keeping the toll steady at 57 across the state.

“No deaths have been reported from any part of the district today, but nine fresh cases of hepatitis have been reported,” Chief District Health Officer (CDHO) Dr H S Patel said.

He said the new cases are not from the Modasa, which is the worst affected district. The fresh cases have been reported from Idar, Bayad and Prantij, Patel added.

With this the total number of people infected by the liver disease rose to 230, of which 57 have died, while 62 have been discharged after treatment.

Meanwhile, the Kutch district health officials filed police complaints against over 100 fake doctors today.

“We have filed police complaints against 113 persons who were prescribing medicine to people without proper certification or licences,” said Kutch District Collector R R Varsani.

He said that this was part of the statewide crackdown on those violating the norms of safe medical practices and disposal of biomedical waste.
