Itanagar, March 8: Is India going to be a country of cricketers only?

The modern youth's obsession with cricket and a few other sport events and the perceived lack of interest in socio-economic issues prompted Arunachal Pradesh Governor Gen (retd) J J Singh to raise the question at a function on Friday night.

Singh also regretted exaggerated display of song and dance competitions.

"At this rate I am afraid India will become a country of cricketers, dancers and singers only," he said and urged the youngsters to take interest in protecting ecology, preventing violence and corruption and curbing drug addiction.

Modern India would emerge from villages and not from metro cities, he said after giving away 'rank and bolt' awards instituted by Air India for teachers and students.
