New Delhi, January 8: China, which will be hosting Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for three days starting January 13, said it has a lot to learn from India in the field of information technology, and space and ocean sciences.

"India has made great achievements in the technologies related to information technology, space and ocean. It is specially worth mentioning that the software industry of India has taken a lead role in the world. We can learn a lot from our Indian counterparts in these areas," Chinese Vice-Minister for Trade Yi Xiaozhun said at a UNIDO seminar at Vienna.

Xiaozhun said China has emerged as India's second largest trading partner. With bilateral trade increasing by 50 per cent in calender year 2007, India is its 10th largest trading partner for China, he said.

During his visit, Manmohan Singh is likely to discuss ways with Chinese leaders to further step up trade and investment between the two countries.

While China is keen to negotiate a full-fledged free trade agreement with India, the Indian industry is opposing the proposal on apprehension that Chinese goods could flood the country. However, a joint study group is exploring the possibility of a preferential trade agreement.

In the backdrop of increasing importance of the two countries in the global economy, the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO) recently organised an Asia-Pacific Roundtable on ‘The China and India Factor: Implications for developing countries in Asia and the Pacific region’ at Vienna.

be afraid of china by kartarSingh on 08 Jan 2008

90,00 sq miles of indian territory is still under chinese occupation in Kashmir and parts of NEFA. They further claim ownership of almost 75 % of our north east states like Nagaland, Mizorem, Sikkim and Assam. India, as well as the rest of the world needs to be wary of China because China is the only country in the world today that has expansionist, imperialist agenda. Taiwan is also in their list. Countries around teh world, cooperate with china at your own peril. This is a country that will enslave the world at the drop of a hat once it has acquired enough monetary muscle. The chinese people may be cultured and warm but the ugly toxi serpent of communism that engulfs this nation is as dangerous today as it was 50 years ago. Beware and Be very afraid.

A lot to learn from India, says China by SAGAR on 08 Jan 2008

Definately agree with Mr Sangar,Must fall for the Chinese sweet talk. In ideal world our PM should show courage

Let's not be taken in by sweet chinese talk. by S.K.Sangar on 08 Jan 2008

Let us not be decieved by China's sweet talks, behind these false gestures are the very same persons (Chinese communists)who hoodwinked Nehru into agreeing to Tibet being a part of China .They did not stop at Tibet. They started layin claims on Indian territory. Their absurd claims to Indian territories are growing day in and day out. Their courtesy is just a short tactical respite between their arrogancies. We should hold our position and respect at all occasions whenever we talk to the chinese.Chinese have no respect for the weak and humble. They respect only strong partners.
