Aligarh, September 17: Aligarh Muslim University was on Monday closed sine die following violence sparked by killing of a varsity student in the campus.

The students residing in the hostels were asked to vacate them within 48 hours and Rapid Action Force and PAC personnel deployed in the campus where the situation is tense but under control, Amu Spokesman Rahat Abrar said.

He said an emergency meeting of the Executive Council members of the University and its Dean called immediately after the Vice Chencellor's house was attacked this morning, took the decision to close the varsity sine-die.

It also decided to institute a high-level probe by a retired Supreme Court judge into all incidents of violence and vandalism in the campus during the past one year.

The AMU will also urge the Centre to order a CBI probe into the killings on the campus since April last, the spokesman said.

The killing of the student on night was the third such incident since april this year.

Hundreds of students protesting Mazhar Naeem's killing went on rampage this morning and set afire Vice Chancellor PK Abdul Aziz's residence. He, however, was not present in his house when it was attacked.

The protestors also attacked the AMU staff club and the proctor's office causing heavy damage to property.

The spokesman said special arrangements have been made for the transportation of the students by road and rail.
