Aligarh (UP) Protesting against an alleged "inflammatory material", posted on a popular social networking website, scores of students of Aligarh Muslim University took to the street.

An FIR against unnamed person was lodged today at Civil Lines police station in connection with certain inflammatory contents which have appeared recently on a social networking site, a senior police official said.

"Police have taken the matter seriously and have forwarded the case to the SP, Cyber Crime, in Agra after FIR was lodged in the connection," Superintendent of Police, Sunil Singh said.

Strong action will be taken once the guilty is traced, Singh said.

Yesterday night, hundreds of slogan shouting students of AMU came out on streets against the person who had uploaded contents which allegedly contain material designed to "inflame religious passions", sources said.

Senior AMU and district officials however managed to diffuse the tension and assured students of prompt action.

A spokesman of the university told news-persons that a group of students held another demonstration today at the university campus, however, it dispersed peacefully after the intervention of students union leaders.
