Ahmedabad The Ahmedabad Urban Development Authority (AUDA) has recently formulated five extensive Town Planning (TP) schemes for eastern and western belts of Ahmedabad.

According to Neela Munshi, Senior Town Planner, AUDA, the schemes are ready and the physical and social infrastructure will be developed as per the Town Planning Act.

Munshi said the areas selected will witness both extensive TP schemes for peripheral areas and neighbouring villages and road linking projects in some schemes.

Town Planning scheme 121 has been charted out for development between Naroda and Hanspura. Town planning officials in AUDA said the scheme will bring road development where Ahmedabad-Dahegam road will be developed, while other small and big roads will be linked. Also, gardens, neighbourhood centres and open spaces will be provided to the residents.

Major concentration will be on roads and residential housing. This scheme is expected to benefit mostly the Hanspura villages that lack all the basic amenities at present.

Town planning official Deepti Parikh said: “TP scheme 119 will be developed on the same pattern, which is set to develope Nikol. The residential housing will be provided in large numbers. The 121 scheme will benefit Nikol’s development also.

The area had a few TP schemes earlier and now these two schemes will benefit the entire belt of Naroda to Nikol.”

The famous industrial zone of Sijpur-Gopalpur, popularly known as Vatva Industrial Zone, has now come under the TP scheme 125. Under this, the Sijpur village will be developed with all the amenities. The industrial zones of

Lambah and Piplaj will be getting the required road infrastructure.

The roads will be developed in the entire stretch directly connecting the area to the Pirana road.

AUDA also pans to develop the Sijpur-Gopalpur Lake and construct a 60,000-sq meter playground, which will be the biggest in Ahmedabad.

“Since the area has a large population of poor settlements, EWS (economically weaker sections) housing will come up mostly over here. The industrial zone will get a major boost with an integrated development that AUDA will bring both physically and socially,” said an officer from the TP department.

Town Planning scheme 81 will focus on Sughad Bhatt village in western belt of Ahmedabad. The area currently has R2 constructions (one of the categories of residential housing) and some industrial zones.

“The areas between Koba Circle and Indira Bridge will be developed, including the smaller areas near the Narmada main canal. As per the scheme, the road network will be established, which connect these areas directly to the Sardar Patel Ring Road and also establish a link between Sughad and Gandhinagar,” said Shital Pillai, a Town Planning officer.

Thaltej, which has now come under the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation’s limit, has a scope of development in the remaining area of 12 hectares that the AUDA has included in the Town Planning Scheme 37/A. Residential development is expected to flourish here.
