Mahabalipuram Aamir Khan has been fooling people around in different disguises to promote '3 Idiots' but it was the actor's turn to be surprised when a tourist guide here failed to recognise him.

The 44-year-old actor toured a number of archaeological sites, roamed around the town in disguise and befriended a tourist guide.

After some time, Aamir decided to reveal himself to that guide only to be taken aback when guide failed to recognise him at all.

When the actor said that he is Aamir Khan, the man said that he had never heard of any actor by that name.

"Do you know who is Shah Rukh Khan?" the actor asked him, to which he was replied with a "no".

When asked whether he had seen any Hindi movie or not, the guide said, "I have seen one film, 'Shalimar' and I know Dharmendra and Amitabh Bachchan."

'Shalimar' was a Dharmendra-Zeenat Aman starrer and was released in 1978.

Nevertheless, the actor gifted the man a ring which the man genuinely liked but he wanted give something in return.

"I should also gift you something, since you are giving me this," said the man and presented a small Ganpati to Aamir.

The actor is on a seven city tour to promote the film, which releases on December 25. He has already made visits to Varanasi, Kolkata, Palanpur in Gujarat, Jaipur and Faridkot.
